It’s taken me a long time…

The first time I heard the story of Jesus feeding five thousand men, with let’s just say a very “limited” amount of food, I thought… well I probably just thought that was pretty cool I suppose. I was very young the first time I heard this and so as you can imagine I didn’t really grasp how powerful this story truly is. And to be completely honest with you, I feel like only now am I really starting to get excited about what this story means for you and I. That’s right, excited!

I want to encourage all of you to embrace the gifts that God has given to you. And try your best not to look at others with envy. I know as well as anyone, this can be a real struggle. But when I do this I am overlooking all of the amazing things God has graciously given to me. Look to 1 Corinthians 4-6, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men”. And 1 Corinthians 12-13 “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all it’s parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-whether Greeks, slave or free (Short, tall, black, white, musically challenged, able to write an interesting blog….or not…?) -and we were all given one Spirit to drink”.

I realize now that Jesus feeding five thousand people with such a small amount is the ultimate analogy of what he can do through us when we continue to pursue his love and offer what we have to Him. He can truly do amazing and seemingly impossible things through you.

Embrace who you are and know that God performs that same miracle to this day all over the world through people just like you and I.
